Old Vine Shiraz
Wine
Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz comes from two mature blocks on the Kaesler Home Vineyard at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. The vines grow in loam soils over clay with small amounts of limestone dispersed throughout.
Some of the fruit is from the Old Vine Block, planted in 1961 with cuttings from Kaesler's 1893 Old Bastard Vineyard. The genetic material from this vineyard only exists in Australia; its parentage was lost to Phylloxera in Europe in the 1880s.
The fruit is hand harvested in the cool of morning. During fermentation on skins, the cap is worked heavily for the first few days, then once daily until the ferment is sugar dry.
Once pressed, the wine is put to medium grained French oak, both new and seasoned. It rests for over a year before bottling without fining or filtration.
Crimson red, Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz is a less bold style of Kaesler Shiraz yet remains full bodied, with red and blue fruits, silky tannins and a lively finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
